Lighting Trends from the Light+Building

The highly anticipated European lighting solutions fair, Light + Building Autumn Edition 2022 in Frankfurt, was postponed for two and a half years due to the pandemic. We visited the fair with the Light24 team to meet face-to-face with our valued partners and, of course, to discover the new directions and trends in the world of lighting./blockquote>
The fair hosted 1531 participants from forty-six countries. This massive event took place at the Frankfurt am Main exhibition center and was conveniently divided into different themes. This allowed each visitor to focus their attention on the part of the fair that interested them the most. Our heightened attention was directed towards decorative lighting, and broadly speaking, we highlight 7 trends that stood out among others.

GEOMETRIC LINES

The use of geometric lines in lighting fixtures is nothing new. Combined squares, rectangles, or circles of different diameters blend well with various interiors and create a balancing effect. Lighting fixtures based on geometric lines typically use LED strips as light sources, providing uniform diffused light and making them suitable for general lighting. Geometric pendant lights, in particular, are attractive, adding vertical spatial depth to interiors.

Track lights and profiles

Track lights and profiles are still on the rise. Several lighting manufacturers offer increasingly compact and easier-to-install solutions for magnetic tracks, and the selection of lighting types for track mounting has expanded. Tracks no longer need to feature only simple directional lights. Decorative lamps, even lighter pendant lights, can be installed on tracks. Essentially, magnetic tracks can solve all interior lighting needs. New technologies allow different types of lights to be grouped, adjust the color temperature, and light intensity.

SOFT COLOR TONES

With classical lights, soft, “washed-out” color tones such as pale pinks, greens, and blues caught the eye. Shapes and materials also create a soft and cozy overall impression. These types of lights have a calming effect and are particularly suitable for spaces intended for rest and relaxation. Pastel color accents can complement interiors with earthy tones or highlight bolder, darker finishes. On display, these soft-toned lights were boldly placed in dark interiors, resulting in a striking and impactful look.

LIGHT BUBBLES

Light emitting from milky or smoky glass spheres and ovals remains popular. Ovals and spheres have become larger or multiple light bubbles are placed on one fixture, often on different levels. When combined with contrasting materials, these lights look truly eye-catching. Light bubbles mounted on metallic structures were particularly noticeable. Black dominated the finishes of these structures, but there were also more glamorous frames in gold or copper tones.

ART DÉCO

It was a pleasure to see that the art déco style, characteristic of the 1920s, is increasingly influential in modern interior design. The characteristics typical of that era have inspired many lighting designers. In a fresher and more refined form, glamorous materials, slender shapes, and vertical lines caught the eye.

LINEAR LIGHTS

In addition to track and profile lights, often preferred for their ability to distribute light over long linear surfaces, pre-formed linear lights also caught our attention. Long lines of light can be both vertical and horizontal. Linear vertical lights arranged closely together create truly striking illuminated islands. Such solutions are suitable for banquet halls but also for home dining rooms. We believe that moderate extravagance in dining room lighting creates a sense of abundance and grandeur, making festive meals even more enjoyable.

ECOLOGICAL MATERIALS

Rattan, wood, or wicker lights have not disappeared anywhere. The use of environmentally friendly and natural materials in lighting design is now a blend of innovation and resourcefulness. Next to classic and timeless lampshades, trendy biomaterials with 3D printed innovative shapes and textures have emerged, allowing those who prefer something special and eye-catching to stay close to nature.

KEYWORDS: GREEN, ECOLOGICAL, INNOVATION, CLASSIC

Of course, the fair surprised with many other unique solutions, such as period-accurate lights for a knight’s castle or touch-sensitive, pre-programmable LED puzzles, and many other surprising combinations of ingenuity, innovation, and creativity.

The next lighting fair will take place in the spring of 2024, and we do not intend to miss it.
