Labeling of luminaires For us to know which environment the light is best suited, all the lights have to be labeled with according symbols. Every light sold in European Union has to have CE mark, which means the product meets European Union standards. In addition safety classes and protection rating are used for all electrical appliances including lightings. Safety classes Class 0 electrical appliances only have the main isolation. In case of isolation failure the metal frame or other conducting parts can become under pressure. Class 0 appliances do not have their chassis grounded. Class I These appliances must have their chassis grounded by an earth conductor which is easily recognizeable by its green and yellow color. Class II These appliances are double insulated. It does not require safety connection to the ground but can be connected to the ground. Class III These appliances are supplied from a SELV power source. Most common are 12 or 24V source, which under normal conditions is not dangerous for persons coming in contact with. In addition the following markings are used: Protection rating is marking which characterizes the appliance's potential to guard the inner parts of electrical appliance from foreign bodies – dust and water. The protection rating consists of the letters IP followed by two digits. The first digit indicates the level of protection provided against solid objects. The second object indicates protection against water.
